Evaluation of Asymptomatic Malaria Antigenaemia and Parasitaemia in Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Children in Benin City, Nigeria

Background: Malaria and HIV/AIDS are rampant in subSaharan Africa with prevalence of one reinforcing the other control impactful on other. parasitaemia (MP) is increased HIV-infected individuals while certain drugs used latter cause decline MP but it uncertain how they affect malaria antigenaemia (MA). How bio-social disease characteristics MA this cohort unknown.
 Objectives: To determine asymptomatic their clinical social determinants HIV infected.
 Methods: In a prospective cross-sectional study carried out at University Benin Teaching Hospital (April to June 2016), 221 children (aged 1-17years) for apparently healthy HIV-negative controls were studied. was assessed using rapid diagnostic test evaluated microscopy. Standard method parasite count.
 Results: Prevalence 24.4% subjects 17.6% comparable (20.8% vs 18.1%). rate (MPr) higher than (MAr) (20.8%). rates independent socioeconomic status, access anti-retroviral drugs, duration use stage.
